Sam Kendall, education manager at Eden Project joins Dorian in the studio for a wide-ranging discussion centred on the necessity to have climate, sustainability and nature firmly entrenched into our school curricula. Sam, a former primary teacher has worked at Eden Project for over 20 years and proudly asserts that the vision and aims have never changed - builds relationships between people and the natural world to demonstrate the power of working together for the benefit of all living things. Now the rest of the World and the UK Government are starting to catch up with this mission, what will this look like in our classrooms and how can we be change makers to realise this ambitious goal?
We explore the vast array of educational projects run by Eden Project and how they support local, regional and national schools with climate curricula both in Cornwall and online. Has there ever been a more important time to get the ball rolling or build upon what you have already done? Organisations like Eden Project have walked a fair few miles in these shoes and have an idea about what works and how to approach building a climate curriculum that elicit David Orr's heart, head and hand concept.
This was an enriching and powerful discussion which truly highlights the importance of making connections with our natural world, building a firm knowledge and understanding and mobilising all to be change makers!
